Quota reform protests at university campuses

The students of different universities are continuing on Monday their demonstration at their respective educational institutions across the country to press home their five-point demand including reformation of existing quota system in government jobs.

They have also boycotted their classes and examinations as part of their central programme enforced by Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad on Sunday.

In Rajshahi University, a group of student took their position at the university’s main gate blocking the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway.

“We boycotted classes but the examinations will remain out of movement”, said Masud Munnaf, a coordinator of the movement at RU.

In Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, the students declared strike at the campus protesting the police attack on quota reformation protests at Shahbagh in the capital that injured more than 100 students.

They also stopped the vehicle movement on the campus and alleged that the Chhatra League leaders and activists obstructed them to keep refrain from their movement.   

In Chittagong University, the students vowed to continue stage demonstration to fulfill their demand.

They boycotted classes and also blocked the train at Sholoshahor area in the port city.

Additional police were deployed to control untoward situation at the scene, said Jakir Hossain, In-charge of Sholoshahor Railway Police outpost. 

In Islamic University, the students brought out a stage procession that paraded the whole campus.

In Bangladesh Agricultural University, the students took their position at the university’s Bangabandhu premises boycotting the classes and chanted slogans in favor of quota reformation in government jobs.
