The 42nd death anniversary of the Liberation War Sector Commander Colonel Abu Taher is being observed today.
The freedom fighter and commander of Sector No. 11 during the war of independence was hanged in the Dhaka Central jail after a military trial on July 21 in 1976.
Jatiya Samajtanrik Dal including Taher Sangsad have chalked out elaborate programmes, including placing floral wreaths at the grave of Colonel Taher at his ancestral home at village Kajla under Purbadhala Upazila of Netrokona district and holding milad and doa mahfil to observe the day.
Leaders of Taher Sangsad also demanded messages from the heads of the state and the government marking the day naming any important installation and road after Colonel Taher.
Taher was born at Badarpur in Assam province of British India on November 14, 1938. After completion of higher secondary school from Sylhet MC College, he joined the Pakistan Army in September 1960 as an officer.
