Election Commission (EC) has undertaken a plan to arrange EVM fair to make the people aware of the use and advantage of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
It is learnt that the two-day long fair will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka.
According to a reliable source, the fair may take place in the first week of the upcoming September. The use and advantage of EVM will be highlighted in the fair. Besides, the presence of IT specialists, dignitaries will be invited in the event.
Abdul Baten, director of operations at the NID registration wing told Jago News that the direction has been given to form committees to make the EVM fair success. The fair will be held in the light of committee’s reports.
But, the date of the fair yet to finalize. August, the month of mourning. Besides, Eid-Ul-Adha is knocking at the door. That’s why, the fair may be held in the first week of July, he added.
EC officials concerned said that trainings are being given to field level officials for ensuring the widespread use of EVM in the upcoming national election. Now, there are a total of 380 sets of EVM under the collection of EC. Till date, they have bought a total of 2,535 pieces of EVM.
EVMs were used in 15 polling stations during the Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal city polls held on July 28 last. Of them, EVMs were used at two polling stations each of Rajshahi, Sylhet and eleven polling stations of Barishal.
But, Bangladesh Nationalist Party, the main opposition political party in the country is taking stand against the use of EVMs in the elections.
