13 killed in Natore road accident

At least 13 people were killed and 31 others injured when a bus collided head-on with a human hauler (leguna) at Clickmore area on Natore-Pabna highway under Boraigram upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon, reports BSS.

Quoting locals, police said all the deceased were passengers of the human hauler, but their identities could not be known immediately.

Shamsur Noor, officer-in-charge (OC) of Banpara Highway Police station, told local journalists that the fatal road accident occurred at around 4pm as the Rangpur-bound bus collided with the human hauler coming from the opposite direction at Clickmore area on the highway.

The OC said 10 passengers of the human hauler died on the spot, while 25 passengers of both the vehicles were injured in the accident.

Three other passengers of the human hauler succumbed to their injuries on way to Banpara Amina Hospital, the OC added.

On information, a team of Fire Service and Civil Defence and several teams of police from Lalpur Police Station and Banpara Highway Police Station rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation.

The other injured persons were taken to different hospitals, including Natore Sadar Hospital and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Meanwhile, the district administration has announced to give Taka 20,000 to the family of each deceased and Taka 10,000 to the injured people, said Shahina Khatun, Deputy Commissioner of Natore.
