Syed Shamsul Haq’s 2nd death anniversary today

The second death anniversary of eminent litterateur Syed Shamsul Haq is being observed on Thursday.

On the occasion, different socio-cultural organisations including Shilpakala Academy have taken two- day elaborate programmes. Private television channels will air various programmes including drama in memory of Shamsul Haq.

Syed Shamsul Haq, one of the most popular writers in Bengali literature, died at United Hospital in the capital on September 27, 2016 at the age of 81.

Haq is an accomplished short-story writer, novelist, playwright and a very popular poet who was born on December 27, 1935 in Kurigram.

He received the “Bangla Academy Award” in 1966, “Ekushey Padak” in 1984 and “Swadhinata Padak Award” in 2000 for his contributions to Bangla literature.

His literary works were included in the curricula of school, secondary, higher secondary and graduation levels of Bengali literature in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will hold a discussion meeting tomorrow marking the day and later will stage Syed’s own drama “Payer Aowaz Paoya Jay” while the drama ‘Hamlet’ will be staged by the academy on September 29.
