Students of different private universities withdrew their blockade at Pragati Sarani on Tuesday evening after daylong demonstration following death of a student of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).
The students said they will resume their demonstration on Wednesday morning to press for their demands.
Earlier in the morning, a bus of Suprovat Paribahan rammed Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury, son of retired brigadier general Arif Ahmed Chowdhury, at Bashundhara gate area in the capital around 7:30 am, said Abdul Ahad, Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police (Gulshan zone).
Police seized the bus and detained its driver. Body of the deceased was sent to Kurmitola General Hospital, he added.
Hearing the news of death, students of different private universities blocked the road in front of Jamuna Future Park in the capital.
Students from North South University, Independent University of Bangladesh, American International University of Bangladesh and others took to the street and blocked the road.
The students are chanting slogans demanding capital punishment of the bus driver.
