A Dhaka court has sentenced fifteen people to death and two others to life imprisonment in a case filed for murder of garment trader Nazrul Islam in Dohar.
Judge Pradeep Kumar Roy of Dhaka Additional District and Sessions Judge on Wednesday passed the order.
The death-row convicts are Siraj alis Seru Karigar, Minhaz alias Minu, Khalil Karigar, Shahjahan Karigar, Didar, Ershad, Kalu alias Kuti Karigar, Azhar Karigar, Niaz Uddin, Mozammel alias Suza, Jalil Karigar, Jalal, Billal, Ibrahim and Abdul Latif.
The two who got life imprisonment are Mozidul alias Mazeda and China Begum. They are on run.
According to the case statement, the convicted people beat Nazrul and his wife Surjabhan up at Narisha Pashchim Char area near Buriganga Bridge over a land feud on April 3 in 2008. Later Nazrul was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition where the doctors declared him dead. Nazrul’s uncle Nazimuddin Ahmed filed a case with Dohar Police Station following the murder in the day.
