PRAN Dairy Limited, a sister concern of PRAN-RFL group, has protested the baseless reports as different media accused it of importing cement in name of plastic granules.
According to the source, PRAN Dairy contracted with GPG Middle East General Trading Company of United Arab Emirates to import 510 metric tons of plastic granules worth around Tk 5.52 crore from Saudi Arabia.
The consignment arrived at Chittagong port on May 26 and the C&F agent PRAN group’s another sister concern PRAN Beverage submitted documents at the Customs House on that day. It also paid Tk 1.42 crore for consignment discharge on May 27.
On June 1, Customs officials discovered sacks of cement after opening up two of the containers and shut down the discharge process. The company informed Customs officials that the wrong goods have been sent and they are deceived. Later Customs official Moniruzzaman Sajeeb filed a departmental case against the importer on June 12.
In this connection, Sadhan Kumar Kundu, Joint Commissioner of Chittagong Customs House, said they usually file a departmental case in these types of cases to launch internal investigation.
After the incident, the company informed us about the matter and they refrain from paying the money to the exporter, he said.
When contacted, PRAN Beverage’s Assistant General Manager Md Sohrab Hossain, said, we requested Chittagong Customs authorities to take necessary step as we didn’t get proper goods in the containers. We also handed over the goods to them immediately after they discovered sacks of cement opening up two of the containers.
Following the matter, different media published news which is totally false and baseless, he added.
