Rail communication between Rajshahi and the rest of the country has been suspended following the derailment of the intercity Titumir Express train on the Rajshahi-Chilahati route. The incident occurred at 6:36 am on Monday near Belpukur in the city.
Abul Kalam Azad, the station manager at Rajshahi Railway Station, confirmed the details to the media.
He stated that the train derailed shortly after departing from Rajshahi, with two of its wheels leaving the tracks. Rescue operations are currently underway.
He further mentioned that this was the first train to depart from Rajshahi Station this morning. As a result, all other train services from the station have been halted. Trains heading towards Rajshahi are also stranded along the route. Normal train operations will resume once the rescue work is completed.
