New uniforms for Police, RAB, and Ansar

New uniforms have been finalised for the Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Ansar forces, according to Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

The decision was made during a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Law and Order at the Secretariat on Monday (January 20).

"The decision on the uniforms has been made. We have selected one uniform for the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), one for the police, and one for the Ansar," said the adviser.

He further added that the new uniforms would be distributed in phases to ensure a smooth transition.

When asked about the rationale behind the change, the adviser emphasised the need for a shift in mindset alongside the uniforms.

"Uniforms alone are not enough; mindsets and attitudes must also change. Corruption is an area where you [journalists] should focus. Eliminating corruption will solve many of the country's problems," he said.

The adviser also addressed concerns about costs, assuring that the process would not require significant funds. "The new uniforms will be introduced gradually, so there won’t be any major financial burden," he said.

During the meeting, 18 uniform designs were tested, and five initial colours were shortlisted. Ultimately, three uniforms were selected:

Police: Iron grey

RAB: Olive green

Ansar: Golden white

The Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed the colour choices following the committee's recommendations.
