Students of Dhaka University on Saturday took to the streets condemning the brutal rape and murder of a Bangladeshi woman at Bengaluru in Indian state of Karnataka.
The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement organised the rally at Raju Memorial Monument, beginning at around 3:45pm.
Zahid Ahsan, the office secretary of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, moderated the event, which saw passionate speeches from leaders and activists of the organisation.
At the rally, Ifti, a student from the Department of Communication Disorders at Dhaka University, said, "We strongly protest the heinous way Nazma was killed. Justice must be ensured without bowing to external pressures. The state must take decisive action. We urge political parties to address this issue boldly. No woman should face such brutality—whether in Bangladesh or elsewhere."
Another student, Yasmin Mitu, expressed outrage, saying, "India raped and murdered a Bangladeshi girl while labeling her as Bangladeshi. What is the implication of this? Do they want Bangladesh to remain submissive forever? We reject their aggression outright."
Afzal Hossain Rakib, convener of Dhaka College's branch of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, added, "One of our sisters was killed in India today. If Indian aggressors think they can continue to introduce corruption and bad culture here, they are delusional. We, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, firmly declare that no fascist allies will take root in Bangladesh."
The protest saw participation from leaders and activists across various levels of the organization, united in their call for justice and resistance against aggression.
