At least 20 people got injured as two factions of BNP clashed over dominance centring a blanket distribution programme in Feni’s Daganbhuiyan on Tuesday afternoon, January 28.
One of the feuding groups carried out a sudden attack on the winter cloth distribution programme at Dakshin Karimpur arranged by upazila BNP convener Akbar Hossain on behalf of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. The attack led to a violent clash between two factions of the party, said locals.
After the violence, upazila BNP convener Akbar in a press briefing accused district unit Juba Dal vice-president Quazi Saifur Rahman Fatik of carrying out the attack to destroy the BNP’s image. He also branded Fatik as ‘terrorist and extortionist’.
Fatik outright rejected the accusation and called on the BNP’s central committee to punish those who launched the assault.
Daganbhuiyan police station’s officer-in-charge Lutfar Rahman said police personnel have been deployed on the spot and the situation is now under control.
