Sarjis Alam, the coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, was injured in a private car accident in Dhaka University.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (February 5) at around 9:15 pm in front of the British Council on the university campus. He received initial treatment at the ophthalmology department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Sarjis Alam stated that he was heading towards the central office in Bangla Motor via Dhaka University when the accident took place. As he reached the British Council area, a child suddenly ran across the road in front of the car. The driver applied the brakes abruptly, causing the vehicle to hit a road divider, which resulted in his injuries.
Dhaka University student Shuvo Howlader said, "Upon receiving the news, I took Sarjis Alam to the hospital from the British Council area. He sustained a cut near his left eye and also suffered a head injury."
Dr Jabir Hossain from the emergency department of DMCH confirmed that Sarjis Alam received stitches near his left eye but is in stable condition.
