Crowd vandalise, torch Obaidul’s Noakhali home

Students and people vandalised and set fire to the home of former Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader in Noakhali’s Companiganj on Thursday, February 6.

Witnesses said several thousand of students and people chanting slogans against Obaidul Quader stormed the house in Bararajapur village around 12:00 noon and carried out vandalism, arson and looting there.

The attackers said the house was a den of extortion, tender manipulation, looting government money and recruitment business during the AL regime.

Companiganj police station’s officer-in-charge Gazi Muhammad Fouzul Azim could not be reached over the phone for comment.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer, UNO, Tanvir Farhad Shamim said he was aware of the incident.

Obaidul Quader’s younger brother Abdul Quader Mirza lived in the house along with family members. After the fall of Awami League government on August 5, 2024, they escaped from there.
