Former Sirajganj-6 MP Chayan arrested in Gazipur

Police have arrested Chayan Islam, a former Member of Parliament (MP) from the Sirajganj-6 constituency of the Awami League, during a raid in Sreepur upazila, Gazipur. The arrest was made based on information provided by leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

The operation took place around 12:00 am on Sunday in the Matir Masjid area of Tepirbari village. According to police sources, Chayan Islam had been in hiding for a long time in a flat within a building owned by the late Khairul Islam Milon.

Upon receiving the tip-off, police surrounded the multi-story building after 11:30 pm and later arrested the former MP from a flat within one of four buildings on the premises. He was then taken to Sreepur police station.

Following the arrest, police conducted another raid in the same building on suspicion that more individuals might be hiding there.

Confirming the arrest, Sreepur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Zainal Abedin Mondal stated that further details would be disclosed later.
