Gold prices cross Tk 1.5 lakh per bhori

Gold prices in Bangladesh have soared to a historic high, with the price of one bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold reaching Tk 1,51,282 after a Tk 1,470 increase.

This marks the first time in the country’s history that gold prices have crossed the Tk 1.5 lakh per bhori threshold.

The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) announced that the new prices will take effect from Tuesday (February 18), attributing the hike to rising prices of pure gold in the local market.

This is the seventh consecutive price increase in recent weeks, following previous hikes on February 2, 6, and 11, as well as January 16, 23, and 30. The decision was made during a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Monday (February 17), as confirmed by a notification signed by committee chairman Masudur Rahman.
