The police have identified and arrested all the members of the teenage gang involved in the attack on a couple in Uttara, Dhaka. So far, the identities of three of the arrested individuals have been revealed. However, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has stated that the total number of arrests is higher.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP’s Uttara Division, Rawnak Jahan, confirmed the matter on Wednesday, stating that further details would be shared in a press conference at the DMP Media Centre later that day.
According to DC Jahan, the teenage gang attacked Mehebul Hasan and his wife, Nasrin Akter Ipti, with sharp weapons after the couple protested reckless motorcycle driving in Uttara. All individuals involved have been identified and arrested.
On Monday night (February 17), two individuals, Md Mobarak Hossain (25) and Robi Ray (22), were arrested. On Tuesday, another youth, Alfaz (23), who was directly involved in the attack, was also arrested.
The incident occurred around 9:30 pm on Monday, when a reckless motorcycle collided with a rickshaw on Road No 9 in Uttara’s Sector 7 Mehebul and Nasrin, who were riding on another motorcycle, protested the incident.
The riders of the motorcycle that hit the rickshaw threatened the couple and physically attacked them with punches and kicks. Later, they called in more people, who attacked the couple with weapons.
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttara West Police Station, Hafizur, stated that the injured couple has received medical treatment and is now out of danger. Nasrin Akter filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with the incident.
