The officer-in-charge of Bhanga police station, Faridpur, Shafiqul Islam, has been arrested in a case filed by a BNP leader.
He was apprehended from the police station on Wednesday night, February 26, a source in the district police confirmed on Thursday night, February 27.
According to the latest information, he was taken to the custody of Police's Detective Branch (DB) in Dhaka.
SM Awal, general secretary of Habiganj municipal unit BNP, filed the case against 75 individuals, including 18 police personnel, with Sadar police station, Habiganj, on February 24.
The case statement said Habiganj BNP arranged a march programme on August 19, 2023, demanding the release and overseas treatment of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. The police and Awami League men attacked the BNP leaders and activists and opened fire on them. At one stage, the cops and AL activists attacked the house of BNP's organising secretary GK Gaus and opened fire. The plaintiff, SM Awal, was shot in the attack.
