No elections until AL faces trial: Sarjis

Sarjis Alam, the Chief Organizer (Northern Region) of the newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP), said that there would be no elections in Bangladesh until the Awami League faces trial.

He made the statement after paying tribute to the martyrs of the July Uprising and visiting their graves at the Rayerbazar killing ground in the capital on Tuesday, March 4.

Sarjis said, "No person or political party in Bangladesh should even consider talking about elections until Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League are put on trial."

He further added, "The murderer Hasina must be brought to Bangladesh. She will face trial and stand on the gallows. How can the people of this country think of anything else until the trial of the murderer, under whose orders so many lives were lost, takes place?"

He continued, “As long as we don’t see the murderer Hasina on the gallows, there will be no elections in Bangladesh. We were on the streets, and my brothers who gave their lives there, as well as the tears still flowing from our mothers' eyes, we hope that before we die, we will at least witness the trial of the murderer Hasina.”

Sarjis also said, "We can only make one request: we will do our best to stand by the mothers with all our might."

The event was attended by NCP’s Convener Md. Nahid Islam, General Secretary Akhtar Hossain, and other central leaders.
