The Police Headquarters has said that Hizb ut-Tahrir is a banned organization, and any activities related to it will be considered a punishable offense under the law.
Inamul Haque Sagar, AIG (Media and PR) of the Police Headquarters, provided this information on Friday (March 7).
Meanwhile, some members of Hizb ut-Tahrir are planning to organize a gathering called 'March for Khilafah' near the Baitul Mukarram Mosque today. They have urged people to gather in the mosque area to ensure the event’s success.
Earlier, on March 6, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Media and Public Relations Division, warned that if any banned organization, including Hizb ut-Tahrir, holds a meeting or gathering, legal action will be taken.
He emphasised that Hizb ut-Tahrir has been officially banned under Bangladesh’s laws since October 22, 2009, due to its threat to public security. According to the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2009, any activity by a banned organization—such as meetings, gatherings, processions, and the distribution of propaganda materials—constitutes a punishable offense.
Rahman reiterated that if any banned organization, including Hizb ut-Tahrir, organizes a gathering or engages in promotional activities, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police will take necessary legal action.
