A local leader of BNP was killed and two others were injured as two factions of the party clashed over the distribution of TCB, and VGF cards in Chuadanga's Sadar on Saturday morning, March 8.
The victim, Rafiqul Islam Rafique, 50, was the former organising secretary of Titudah union unit BNP under the upazila.
Seeking anonymity, several witnesses said Rafique locked into an altercation with the men of Titudah union BNP president Milon Mia and general secretary Abul Hashem Totan over previous enmity centring TCB card distribution, and allocation of 10 kg VGF rice on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
At one stage, Milon and Totan's supporters started beating Rafique, leading to a violent clash between two factions of the party.
During the clash, the union BNP president and secretary's men hacked Rafique, leaving him dead on the spot.
Confirmed the matter of death, the superintendent of Chuadanga district police, Khandakar Golam Mawla, said police personnel have been sent to the spot.
The district unit BNP's president Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu could not be reached over the phone for comment.
Mirza Faridul Islam Shiplu, organising secretary of the district unit BNP, said the Awami League men are trying to create a situation of conflict by infiltrating the party to gain political advantage.
He, however, said they will take organisational measures if anyone of BNP is involved in the incident.
