A Bangladeshi youth, Al Amin, 38, was killed by gunfire from the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Panchagarh.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, March 8, near Sub Pillar 7 of Main Pillar 744 in the Bhitargarh area of Amarkhana Union, Panchagarh Sadar Upazila, under the jurisdiction of the Nilphamari 56 BGB Battalion.
Al Amin, son of Suruj Ali from Jinnat Para in Haribhasa Union of the same upazila, was reportedly shot during the incident.
According to sources from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents, Al Amin and a group of young men had approached the Indian border on Friday night to smuggle cows. When they attempted to cross into India, personnel from the Bhatpara camp of India’s 46 BSF Battalion opened fire. On Saturday morning, locals discovered Al Amin’s body approximately 50 yards inside Indian territory in the Abalupara area.
Lt Col Sheikh Mohammad Badruddoza, Commander of the Nilphamari 56 BGB Battalion, said that a flag meeting has been scheduled between the BGB and BSF to facilitate the handover of the deceased’s body.
