BNP never stated reforms should come after election: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Wednesday that the party has never stated that reforms should come after the election, calling this a misinterpretation intended to mislead the public. He emphasised that BNP has stated that the minimum reforms necessary to ensure a fair election must be implemented.

Fakhrul made these remarks during an Eid greeting exchange with party leaders and activists at his residence in Thakurgaon district at 11:30 am on Wednesday, April 2.

He further added that a smear campaign is being run targeting BNP. While expressing respect and admiration for knowledgeable, educated, and highly qualified individuals involved in reforms, he noted that if they act against the interests of the people, BNP cannot support them.

Fakhrul also stated that democracy is the best system for governing a state. He warned that if political parties become authoritarian out of fear, it could lead to a situation like that of the Awami League. In such cases, he said, the people would eventually remove them from power. He stressed that the people should not be blamed for this, as democracy is the best system.

Leaders and activists of the district BNP and its associated organizations were also present at the event.
