The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Bangladesh and the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) of Thailand signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, aimed at enhancing international cooperation in the fight against corruption.
ACC Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen and NACC President Suchart Trakulkasemsuk signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.
The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, Thailand, and was witnessed by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
Abdul Momen expressed hope that the MoU would strengthen efforts by both Bangladesh and Thailand to tackle corruption more effectively. "Many of the Bangladeshi corruption suspects took shelter in some of the neighbouring countries. We believe this MoU will help track them down and bring them to the book," he said.
The MoU was signed with the aim of bolstering international cooperation as outlined in Article 48 of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which encourages state parties to enter into bilateral and multilateral agreements for direct cooperation between law enforcement agencies.
Under the terms of the MoU, Bangladesh and Thailand will share initial information relevant to the prevention of corruption, exchange best practices in information gathering, collaborate on joint projects, share studies, and engage in other cooperative activities as necessary to prevent and combat corruption.
