The funeral of Pope Francis, whose death has prompted an outpouring of grief among Catholics worldwide, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, according to an announcement from the Vatican.
Pope Francis, an energetic reformer who inspired widespread devotion among Catholics while also facing criticism from traditionalists, passed away on Monday at the age of 88, reports BSS.
The Argentine pontiff, who led the Catholic Church since March 2013, had been undergoing treatment for double pneumonia at Rome's Gemelli Hospital for 38 days. He was discharged on March 23 after showing signs of recovery.
His death came just a day after he made a frail but joyful appearance before thousands of worshippers on Easter Sunday from the balcony of Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
