The price of gold in the local market has increased once again, just a day after the previous hike.
The new price for the best quality gold—22-carat (11.664 grams per bhori)—has been raised by Tk 5,342, setting a new all-time high at Tk 177,888 per bhori.
This marks the highest gold price ever recorded in the country's market.
According to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS), the price adjustment comes in response to a rise in the cost of refined gold in the local market.
The new prices will take effect from tomorrow, Wednesday, April 23.
Earlier on Monday, it was announced that starting from today, Tuesday, the price of the highest quality 22-carat gold would increase by 4,713 taka per gram, bringing the new price to Tk 172,546 per tola. As of Tuesday, this was the highest gold price in the country. However, just one day after setting this record price, the price has been increased again today, breaking all previous records and reaching a new high.
On Tuesday (April 22), the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring decided to raise the price during a meeting. This information was later conveyed in a notice signed by the committee chairman, Masudur Rahman.
According to the new price, the highest quality 22-carat gold has increased by Tk 5,342 per gram, setting the new price at Tk 177,888 per tola. The price of 21-carat gold per tola has increased by Tk 5,109, bringing it to Tk 169,805. Additionally, the price of 18-carat gold per tola has risen by Tk 4,374, setting the new price at Tk 145,543. The price of traditional gold has increased by Tk 3,732 per tola, bringing the new price to Tk 120,512.
Previously, on Monday, the price of 22-carat gold per tola had increased by Tk 4,713, bringing it to Tk 172,546. The price of 21-carat gold had risen by Tk 4,491, setting the new price at Tk 164,696. Moreover, the price of 18-carat gold had increased by Tk 3,860, making the new price Tk 141,169, and the price of traditional gold had risen by Tk 3,289 per tola, setting the new price at Tk 116,780. This was the price at which gold was traded on Tuesday.
Along with the increase in gold prices, the price of silver has also gone up. The price of 22-carat silver has risen by Tk 288 per gram, bringing the new price to Tk 2,846 per tola. The price of 21-carat silver per tola has increased by Tk 269, setting it at Tk 2,718. Additionally, the price of 18-carat silver has gone up by Tk 222 per tola, making the new price Tk 2,333, and the price of traditional silver has increased by Tk 164 per tola, bringing the new price to Tk 1,750.
