A Dhaka court has placed Anti-Discrimination Student Movement leader Hridoy Miazi on a seven-day remand in a case over the murder of a student of Primeasia University on the campus.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Salaullah passed the order on Wednesday, April 23, after the police produced him before the court, seeking a 10-day remand.
Accused Hridoy Miazi, 23, is the joint member secretary of Banani Thana unit Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and hails from Durlabdi village in Cumilla’s Titas.
In the case, three other accused were arrested. They are Md Al Kamal Sheikh alias Kamal, 19, Alvi Hossain Junayed, 19, and Al Amin Sani, 19.
Zahidul Islam Parvez, 23, a student of the 223rd batch of the Textile Engineering Department of Primeasia University, was stabbed to death following an altercation between students of two departments on the university campus in the capital's Banani area on April 20.
Quoting Primeasia University campus sources, news agency UNB reported the altercation began around 4:00pm on the day when Parvez went to a nearby alley for having snacks where three female students brought allegation of eve-teasing against him.
The girls reportedly called their friends prompting university authorities to mediate between the two sides and resolve the issue.
Later in the day, Mahathi, Meherab, and Abuzar allegedly brought a group of youths from the Hazaripara area and attacked Parvez, leaving him injured.
He was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital by his fellows where doctors declared him dead.
Students from the Textile Engineering Department alleged that Parvez was attacked with the help of outsiders and he was stabbed in the chest.
A video of the incident was later circulated on social media.
After the incident, Parvez’s cousin Humayun Kabir field a case with Banani police station on April 20.
