Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain announced on Monday that the government will translate Fatawa-e-Darul Uloom Deoband, a collection of Islamic legal opinions issued issued by the Islamic seminary that leads Deobandi school of thought, into Bengali.
The project will span 27 volumes, he revealed at a seminar titled "Determining the Policy Regarding the Bengali Translation of the Fatawa-e-Darul Uloom Deoband," held at the Islamic Foundation (IF) auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka, where he was the chief guest.
Khalid emphasised the importance of the translation, saying, “This work is significant and sensitive. Accuracy and timeliness must be prioritized over literal translation.”
He expressed hope that the translated fatwas would serve as a vital guideline for devout Muslims in Bangladesh.
The seminar was presided over by Islamic Foundation Director General AS Salam Khan.
Governors of the IF Board, including Alhaj Maulana Md Nesarul Haque, Syed Mohammad Mosaddek Billah Al Madani, and Maulana Mahfuzul Haque, also spoke as special guests, among others.
