DSCC cancels trade licenses of all rooftop restaurants

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) announced the cancellation of trade licenses for all rooftop restaurants and establishments operating restaurants in buildings not designed for such use, citing significant safety risks.

The decision was detailed in a public notice on Monday, April 28,.

The notice highlighted that many residential and commercial buildings under DSCC jurisdiction lack RAJUK-approved designs for restaurants, yet operate them illegally, including on rooftops.

This poses a danger to public safety, as past violations have led to accidents resulting in property damage and loss of life. It also noted that many such businesses unethically obtained trade licenses.

To mitigate risks to life and property, the DSCC has cancelled the trade licenses of all non-compliant and rooftop restaurants effective immediately.

The notice warned that legal action will be taken against any business continuing to operate with a cancelled license.
