Court orders seizure of Sheikh family lands in Tungipara, elsewhere

A Dhaka court has mandated the confiscation of multiple properties owned by Sheikh family members across Tungipara, Dhaka, Khulna, and Gopalganj, following allegations of illegal wealth acquisition.

On Wednesday, April 30, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Ghalib issued the order in response to an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The application, filed by ACC Deputy Director Md Monirul Islam, sought to seize these assets to prevent their sale or transfer during the ongoing investigation.

The seized properties include:

A plot valued at Tk 4.98 crore in Baridhara, Dhaka, registered under Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

87.70 decimal of land in Dighlia, Khulna, owned by Sheikh Hasina’s sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and daughter Saima Wazed Putul, with a deed value of Tk 6.187 lakh.

19 decimal of land in Tungipara, Gopalganj, in Sheikh Rehana’s name, valued at Tk 20.50 lakh.

87.70 decimal of land in Dighlia, Khulna, owned by Sheikh Rehana’s children, Radwan Mujib Siddique Bobby and Azmina Siddique, with a deed value of Tk 41.245 lakh.

The ACC’s application emphasised that the properties must be seized to safeguard them during the probe into the family’s alleged illicit wealth.

This order follows prior actions against the family’s assets. On Tuesday, April 29, the court ordered the seizure of a flat in Gulshan, Dhaka, owned by Saima Wazed Putul.

On March 5, the same court froze Tk 48.35 crore in 14 bank accounts linked to the Shuchona Foundation, established by Putul.

Additionally, at least Tk 1,657,822,118 in various bank accounts held by Hasina’s family members, including Putul, has been frozen in multiple phases.
