BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has returned home after receiving nearly four months of medical treatment in London, United Kingdom.
A special air ambulance, provided by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, carrying Khaleda Zia and her entourage, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:38 am on Tuesday, May 6. Senior BNP leaders welcomed Khaleda Zia at the airport.
The information was confirmed to Jago News by Shamsuddin Didar, a member of the BNP Chairperson's Press Wing.
Accompanying Khaleda Zia were her two daughters-in-law, Zubaida Rahman and Syeda Shamila Rahman. While Shamila Rahman has visited Bangladesh on several occasions over the years, this is the first time Zubaida Rahman has returned to the country since leaving on September 11, 2008.
From early morning, crowds of BNP leaders and activists gathered on both sides of the airport road to welcome their party chief. Leaders and activists from Dhaka and various parts of the country also assembled along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, including areas in Banani, Khilkhet, and near the airport.
Earlier on Monday, Khaleda Zia departed from London’s Heathrow Airport for Dhaka.
