Factories to get additional 250mmcfd gas to meet crisis

Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan announced an additional 250 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas for industries to address ongoing supply shortages, following a meeting with industrial entrepreneurs at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

Fouzul Kabir acknowledged disruptions in industrial production due to insufficient gas, exacerbated by declining domestic production and new industrial demand.

“We’re sensitive to the challenges, including America’s reciprocal tariffs,” he told reporters.

To bridge the gap, 150 MMSCFD previously allocated for Ramadan will be redirected to industries instead of power generation, and four LNG cargoes from May to August will add 100 MMSCFD.

The total 2.5 billion cubic feet increase will target key industrial zones, identified in collaboration with entrepreneurs.

“We’ll monitor supply continuously to ensure stability,” Fouzul said, emphasising joint efforts to mitigate the crisis.
