Jahangir vows to punish those behind Hamid’s escape or resign

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury pledged to punish those who aided former President Abdul Hamid’s escape from Bangladesh, vowing to resign if he fails.

Speaking to journalists after a disciplinary committee meeting at the Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Thursday evening, Chowdhury said, “Those involved will face consequences. We’ve made significant improvements since taking responsibility.”

Hamid, accused of ties to the ousted Awami League government, fled on a Thai Airways flight at 3:05 am Wednesday, nine months after the regime’s fall in a student-led uprising.

The Bangladesh Juba Adhikar Parishad, linked to Gana Adhikar Parishad, issued a 48-hour ultimatum Thursday, demanding Chowdhury’s resignation during a Home Ministry protest, accusing him of complicity.

Chowdhury, who later attended a meeting at the Dinajpur Wheat Research Institute, iterated his commitment to accountability amid rising public outrage over the interim government’s handling of the incident.
