Multiple explosions were reported at Jammu airport in Indian-administered Kashmir on Thursday night, escalating tensions as India and Pakistan traded accusations of drone attacks, a security source told AFP.
Shesh Paul Vaid, former Jammu and Kashmir police chief, confirmed “loud explosions” on social media.
The Times of India reported Pakistan launched a coordinated drone and missile assault targeting Jammu, prompting a blackout in Jammu city, Akhnoor, and Kishtwar.
Indian air defence systems intercepted several loitering munitions aimed at the airport, according to television reports.
Sirens echoed as residents reported intense anti-aircraft fire engaging hostile targets.
The security source, unauthorised to speak publicly, could not confirm the explosions’ cause.
The incident follows mutual claims of cross-border strikes, with Pakistan alleging Indian attacks on civilian areas and India citing terror threats. Authorities have activated emergency protocols in the region.
