Rally after Jum’a prayers to press for AL ban

A rally is set to be held in the capital on Friday afternoon, demanding a ban on the Awami League as a political party. The event is scheduled to take place after Jum’a prayers in front of the fountain beside the eastern side of the Chief Adviser’s residence, Jamuna, near Minto Road.

Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organiser (South) of the National Citizen Party, announced plans for a large gathering at a press conference held around 8:30 am. He stated that a stage was being constructed in front of the fountain and added, “It will become a sea of people after Jum’a prayers. Today, everyone will see who truly supports banning the Awami League.”

He urged all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, to join the rally.

“As long as the fascist and genocidal Awami League is not declared a terrorist organisation, its registration cancelled, and the party banned, we will not leave the streets,” Hasnat declared. “We call upon the people across the country to come out and join the demand to ban the Awami League.”

Protests in front of the Chief Adviser’s residence in Jamuna began at 10 pm on Thursday and continued into Friday.

Meanwhile, preparations for the rally were ongoing, with five pickup vans transporting bamboo, wood, and other materials for constructing the stage near the Minto Road fountain.
