A leader of the Dhaka University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has been stabbed to death by unidentified assailants on the university campus.
The deceased, Shahriar Alam Shammo (25), was a master’s student at the Institute of Education and Research (IER) of the university. He also served as the literary and publications secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of Chhatra Dal.
The incident occurred around midnight on Tuesday (May 13). Shammo was critically injured and rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead at approximately 12:15 am.
According to his classmate Md Rafi, the incident took place near the open stage at Suhrawardy Udyan. Around midnight, Shammo was riding a motorcycle when it collided with another motorbike. A dispute and scuffle followed between the parties involved. At one point, unidentified individuals stabbed Shammo, leaving him severely injured. He was later taken to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Shammo was originally from Ullapara upazila in the Sirajganj district. He was a residential student of Sir AF Rahman Hall.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the police camp at the hospital, said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue. The relevant police station has been informed of the incident.
