Workers of a ready-made garments factory blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Gazipur's Tongi on Saturday morning, May 17, demanding payment of their arrears.
Workers of BHIS Apparels Ltd barricaded the highway in Dattapara area around 9:00am, and the blockade continued for about three hours, leaving vehicular movement suspended that caused immense sufferings to commuters.
Police and workers said the apparel factory, where more than 1,500 individuals work, has yet to pay the salary of April.
Islamil Hossain, Tongi region inspector of Gazipur Industrial Police-2, said the vehicular movement returned to normal around 12:00 noon after the police convinced the protesting workers to leave the road.
