The Ministry of Commerce has scheduled an emergency meeting Tuesday to address the escalating crisis following Indian abrupt ban on import of seven categories of Bangladeshi goods, including garments, processed foods, and plastics, through land ports.
The meeting, set for 4:00pm in the inter-ministerial meeting room and chaired by the Commerce Secretary, aims to evaluate the ban’s impact and formulate immediate countermeasures to sustain exports.
Ministry sources indicate that the ban could severely hamper Bangladesh’s export-driven economy, particularly in the garment and food processing sectors.
Attendees will include officials from the Ministry of Shipping, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, National Board of Revenue, Bangladesh Land Ports Authority, Export Promotion Bureau, and National Consumer Protection Directorate.
Industry stakeholders from the FBCCI, BGMEA, and India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry have also been summoned to provide critical input.
The sudden restriction, announced without prior notice, has raised concerns about supply chain disruptions and potential economic losses.
