Ishraque's supporters give ultimatum to hand over mayoral duties

Supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain have given an ultimatum to the government to hand over mayoral duties of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) to him by 10:00am on Wednesday, May 21, otherwise they will go to tougher movement.

Former secretary Moshiur Rahman made the announcement from a sit-in programme in front of Nagar Bhaban in the capital on Tuesday afternoon, May 20.

"We will wait till 10:00am tomorrow (Wednesday). If a decision is not made to hand over mayoral duties to Ishraque Hossain by then, we will go to a tougher programme," he said.

Moshiur also threatened to paralyse Dhaka if their demand is not met.

At that time, all-level labour unions of DSCC expressed solidarity with the movement by Ishraque's supporters and, announced that if the demand is not fulfilled within the stipulated time, they will suspend all civic services, including waste removal, garbage transporting and electricity services, for Dhaka dewellers.

Supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain observed their sit-in for the sixth consecutive day today, demanding his swearing-in as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
