A local BNP activist was killed and six others were injured when a faction of the party attacked another over pasting posters in Netrakona’s Durgapur on Thursday night, May 22.
Dead Shafiqul Islam alias Safu, 40, was a resident of Abbasnagar village in the upazila and worked in a local sawmill.
Locals said the supporters of Jamal Uddin, join convener of Durgapur upazila unit BNP, allegedly obstructed the men of Hamidur Rahman, former president of the unit BNP, from pasting his Eid-ul-Azha greeting posters and placing billboard in Durgapur Bazar area in the afternoon.
When Hamid complained to Dugrapur police about the incident, Jamal’s men on 25-30 motorcycles carried out an attack on his home at Abbasnagar village around 8:30pm, leaving his nephew Shafiqul dead and six other injured.
Jamal could not be reached over the phone for comment.
Durgapur police station’s officer-in-charge, Mahmudul Hasan, said they were trying to arrest those involved in the incident.
