Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman offered an unconditional apology for any mistakes made by the party or its members.
"We do not claim to be above errors. We sincerely seek forgiveness from anyone affected by our actions or conduct. We humbly ask for your forgiveness," he said.
Shafiqur made these remarks during an emergency press conference held at the Diploma Engineers Institution in Kakrail, Dhaka, on Tuesday afternoon.
The press conference was organised following the acquittal of Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam from a death penalty in a case related to crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Addressing unresolved national issues, the Jamaat Amir urged all political parties and stakeholders to prioritize the people's interests.
He said, "If, by the will of Allah and with the support of the people, we are entrusted with serving the nation, we pledge to end revenge politics and discrimination. We will work tirelessly with the people to build a just and equitable society."
Commenting on ATM Azharul Islam’s acquittal, Shafiqur expressed gratitude, saying, "We offer endless thanks to Allah. We have awaited this verdict for a long time, and today, Allah has granted us this moment."
The verdict was announced earlier on Tuesday by a seven-member appeal bench led by Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed. Following the announcement, Jamaat-e-Islami promptly organised the press conference at the IDEB Muktijoddha Hall in Kakrail.
The party's acting secretary general, two vice-presidents, and other senior leaders were present at the event.
