Secretariat staff now announce 1-hour strike every day

Officers and employees at the Bangladesh Secretariat have announced a one-hour work abstention every day from Thursday, May 29, until the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 is repealed. 

They will observe the work stoppage from 10:00am to 11:00am every day.

Secretariat Officers and Employees Unity Forum co-chairman Md Badiul Kabir made the announcement in a press conference at the Secretariat on Wednesday, May 28.

Employees at the Secretariat have been protesting for the last couple of days to demand the immediate repeal of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance-2025.

On Tuesday, May 27, they suspended their protest for today (Wednesday) after a meeting with six secretaries, including Senior Land Secretary ASM Saleh Ahmed.

After the meeting, Saleh Ahmed said, “We, a few secretaries, sat with them (protesters) and listened to them. We will present a summary of their demand to the Cabinet Division on Wednesday (May 28).”

The protesters suspended their programme for the sake of discussion, he added.

At that time, two from the protesting employees spoke and they also agreed to the suspension of the movement for a day.
