Bangladesh launched its first commercial mango export to China on May 28, 2025, a milestone credited to Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s recent Beijing visit.
Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin, at the Air Shipment Departure Ceremony at HSIA, called it a breakthrough in addressing trade imbalances.
The 10-tonne consignment, bound for Changsha, Hunan, via SF Express, kicks off a 100-tonne export target this season under a duty-free trade framework.
“This opens doors for our agricultural exports,” Bashir said, eyeing markets in Japan and Europe. Recent airport cargo handling reforms have cut export costs by 15-40%, enhancing competitiveness.
Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen described the shipment as a “concrete outcome” of Yunus’s visit, reflecting the win-win nature of bilateral ties. He emphasized cooperation in multilateral frameworks like the WTO and integrated supply chains.
Yao announced that Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao will lead a 100-company delegation to Dhaka this month, the largest-ever Chinese business mission to Bangladesh, to foster trade and investment. Bashir highlighted upcoming MoUs and China’s interest in raw leather exports, adding new dimensions to the partnership.
This launch underscores Bangladesh’s rising agro-export potential and diplomatic success in economic engagement, signaling a new era of diversified trade and global cooperation.
