Trawler sinks in Meghna: One dead, five missing including Police, Ansar

A trawler carrying 39 passengers sank in the Meghna River in Hatia, Noakhali, on Saturday, May 31, 2025, due to severe weather conditions. 

One body has been recovered, while five individuals, including police and Ansar members, remain missing.

The incident occurred around 3:30 pm as the trawler travelled from Bhasanchar to Karimbazar. 

Of the 39 passengers, 33 were rescued safely, though one is in critical condition. 

The passengers included sick Rohingya individuals, three policemen from Bhasanchar Police Station, Ansar members, and NGO representatives.

Noakhali Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Md. Ibrahim confirmed the details to Jago News. 

He reported that the trawler was caught in a storm and sank approximately one kilometer from Karimbazar. 

Among the missing are policeman Nayek Saiful and Ansar battalion member Hannan. Police and Coast Guard teams are actively conducting rescue operations to locate the five missing individuals.
