A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) near the Kulaura border in Moulvibazar district and his body was taken away, according to local sources.
The incident occurred around 11:30 PM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, in the no-man’s land near the Dattagram border of Sharifpur Union, close to the Chatlapur border outpost.
The deceased, identified as Pradeep Baidya, was a resident of the Dattagram area in Kulaura upazila and the son of Shailendra Baidya.
Joynul Islam, a member of Ward 9 of Sharifpur Union Parishad, confirmed that Pradeep’s body is currently at Kailashahar Hospital in India.
He said, “Pradeep was engaged in agricultural work alongside his studies. The BSF shot him near the border fence and took his body away. Despite our efforts that night, we were unable to intervene.”
Joynul added that Pradeep’s family, accompanied by local representatives, is at Kulaura police station to file a general diary (GD) regarding the incident. “The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will take further action,” he said.
Lieutenant Colonel ASM Zakaria, commander of the 46 BGB Battalion, clarified that the shooting occurred on Indian territory. “The body has been taken to Kailashahar Hospital. The Indian police will hand it over to the Bangladesh police,” he said.
Further details on the circumstances of the incident and the repatriation process are awaited as authorities coordinate with their Indian counterparts.
