Budget 2025-26: Increased allocation for agriculture, food, and fisheries

The proposed budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year includes a significant increase in funding for the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Food, and Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, underscoring the government's commitment to strengthening these critical sectors.

Salehuddin announced a combined allocation of Tk 39,620 crore for the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Food, and Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock for the 2025-26 fiscal year. This marks an increase from the 38,259 crore taka allocated in the 2024-25 fiscal year. 

Specific allocations include:

Ministry of Agriculture: Tk 27,224 crore 

Ministry of Food: Tk 29,541 crore 

Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock: Tk 3,392 crore 

The combined allocation of Tk 39,620 crore reflects the total for these sectors, though individual ministry figures from prior announcements sum differently due to budget restructuring.

The increased funding aims to bolster agricultural productivity, ensure food security, and support the fisheries and livestock sectors, which are vital for economic stability and rural livelihoods. 

Budget overview

Finance Advisor Dr Salehuddin Ahmed presented the 2025-26 fiscal year budget of Tk 7,89,999 crore on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 3 PM. The announcement was broadcast on Bangladesh Television due to the non-functioning parliament. 

The 2025-26 budget is approximately Tk 7,000 crore less than the original 2024-25 budget (Tk 7,97,000 crore).However, it is Tk 46,000 crore higher than the revised 2024-25 budget.
