Govt to act against ‘inaccurate’ news

The government will take legal action against individuals or entities spreading false or misleading news, announced Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.

He made the announcement during a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.

Addressing reports about the valiant freedom fighter status of those who led the Liberation War, Azad Majumder said, “Such news is fake, false, baseless, and fabricated.”

He called on media outlets that published inaccurate reports to issue corrections in the same format and express regret to their readers.

While emphasising the interim government’s commitment to media freedom, he added, “We welcome criticism, but no one has a license to spread inaccurate news at will.”
