A daring robbery of Tk 55 lakh from mobile financial service 'Nagad' occurred in Manirampur, Jashore, on the Rajarhat-Chuknagar highway in the Jamtala Donar area at approximately 10 am on Tuesday, June 17.
According to police reports, Nagad's area manager, Rabiul Islam, was travelling from Jasshore to the Manirampur office in a car, carrying a bag containing Tk 55 lakh.
As the car reached the Jamtala area, two motorcyclists approached from behind, forcing the vehicle to stop.
The armed goons held the occupants at gunpoint, shattered the car’s window, seized the bag of money, and fled toward Jashore.
Following the incident, multiple police teams arrived at the scene. Rabiul Islam and several others were detained for questioning to assist in the investigation.
Local witnesses, Mirajul Islam and Jabeda Khatun, reported hearing the sound of vandalism while working in nearby fields.
Upon approaching, they observed two individuals standing beside the damaged car with its glass broken.
Another peasant, Tuku, noted seeing individuals escaping toward Jshore on two motorcycles, carrying bags.
Abu Sayeed, Supervisor at Nagad’s Manirampur office, confirmed the robbery, saying that his superiors verified the stolen amount as Tk 55 lakh.
He visited the site upon receiving news of the incident.
The car’s driver, Saju Hossain, recounted that the motorcyclists suddenly blocked the vehicle, forcing him to stop. Before he could react, the assailants dismounted, broke the car’s window, assaulted the occupants, and fled with the bags toward Jashore.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manirampur Police Station, Bablur Rahman Khan, confirmed that several individuals have been detained for preliminary questioning. He assured that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the details of the incident.
