5 secretaries sent into compulsory retirement

The government has sent five secretaries and one Grade-1 official into compulsory retirement.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued separate gazette notifications on Thursday night (June 19), ordering their retirement.

Those sent into compulsory retirement include: Kazi Enamul Hasan, Director General (Secretary) of the Bangladesh Employees Welfare Board; Sukesh Kumar Sarkar, Director General (Secretary) of the National Academy for Planning and Development; Muhammad Ibrahim, Chairman (Secretary) of the Land Appeal Board; Dr Md Shahid Ullah, Rector (Secretary) of the National Academy for Development Administration; and Mohammad Salah Uddin, a secretary currently serving as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD).

Additionally, Dr Lipika Bhadra, Chairman (Grade-1) of the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation, has also been sent into compulsory retirement.

The retirements were carried out under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, which allows the government to retire an official without prior notice after 25 years of service.

According to the gazette notifications, the officials will receive retirement benefits in accordance with existing rules.

The interim government has previously sent into compulsory retirement several officials who were appointed as secretaries during the tenure of the Awami League government.
