NCP to submit registration application to EC this afternoon

The National Citizen Party (NCP) will submit its application to the Election Commission on Sunday afternoon, seeking registration as a political party. The party’s Joint Member Secretary, Mushfiq Us Saleheen, confirmed the matter.

He said an NCP delegation would visit the Election Commission at 3:00 pm to submit the registration application.

In the meantime, party leaders have been consulting on the selection of an election symbol. A discussion on the matter took place last Friday during the party's general meeting.

According to party sources, a majority of members supported selecting the "clenched fist" as the election symbol, viewing it as a representation of the 2024 mass uprising and national unity.

NCP’s Member Secretary, Akhtar Hossain, stated that the party has fulfilled all registration requirements, including forming district and upazila-level committees, opening offices, and distributing membership forms. “We are hopeful that we have met all the necessary conditions for submitting the application,” he added.

Regarding the election symbol, he said, “We have primarily shortlisted five to six symbols. Once the application is submitted, we will share the list with the media.”

Earlier, on March 10, the Election Commission issued a notice inviting applications for the registration of new political parties, setting April 20 as the deadline.

On April 17, the NCP submitted a letter to EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, requesting a 90-day extension. The Commission later extended the deadline to June 22.
